Full Itinerary 2-Day Inca Trail From Ollantaytambo or Urubamba
Day 1: Ollantaytambo or Urubamba – Km104 – Wiñaywayna – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes
Your unforgettable journey with Altitude Peru begins bright and early with a 5:00 a.m. hotel pick-up, followed by a scenic 6:10 a.m. train ride from Ollantaytambo to Km 104. Your trek officially starts here, offering spectacular views of the Urubamba River, lush farmlands, and snow-capped mountain peaks.
After a brief orientation and a visit to the first archaeological site, you will hike for three hours to Wiñay Wayna (2,600 m). This breathtaking Inca complex features stunning terraces, ancient temples, and water fountains. Here, you will enjoy a freshly prepared lunch, refill your water, and rest before continuing your hike to the Sun Gate.
From the Sun Gate, you will be rewarded with your first magical glimpse of Machu Picchu. Because you arrive in the late afternoon, you have the unique opportunity to photograph and experience the citadel with far fewer crowds. Afterward, you will descend by bus to the town of Aguas Calientes for dinner and a restful overnight stay to prepare for the next day’s adventures.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco
Start your morning early to catch one of the first buses up the mountain, allowing you to witness a stunning sunrise over the Inca Citadel. You will then enjoy a comprehensive, three-hour guided tour with your private, English-speaking guide. Once the tour concludes, you will have free time to explore the magnificent ruins at your own pace.
If you have secured tickets in advance, you can challenge yourself with a hike up Huayna Picchu mountain, which takes about 1.5 hours round trip and offers incredible panoramic views.
After your exploration, you can return to Aguas Calientes by bus or on foot for a relaxing free afternoon. Finally, board your afternoon train back to Ollantaytambo, where our team will be waiting to drive you comfortably back to your hotel in Cusco

- Huayna Picchu: The mountain that is next to Machu Picchu. This trek has a duration of about 50 minutes and is quite the walk. It has a cost of 75 USD, and for us to be able to get permission for this mountain, you must let us know a month in advance due to its popularity.
- Rentals: Every traveler needs to have their own sleeping bag when camping. Inflatable air mattresses and walking sticks are recommended. These items are not part of the tour package so if you do not wish to bring any of own the above items, you may rent them following these ratest: Inflatable air mattress : $ 15 Walking sticks: $ 10 Sleeping bag: $ 20
- Backpacks for the Day: the agency does not provide backpacks, so you must bring your own. Note; Machu Picchu does not allow backpacks over 25 lb. Flashlights (lamps): it is recommended to bring flashlights for the campsites or headlamps.
- Flights: it is recommended to arrive one day before to Cusco or 2 days before. Flight delays are common in Cusco due to the frequent change of weather, therefore we recommend arrival to be a couple days before. Safe airline: Latam
- Tips: Tips are always welcome, and should be based on your travel satisfaction (not mandatory).
