Inca Trail Tours 5 Days Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – KM 82 – Llactapata – Hatunchaca
Your adventure begins with pickup from your hotel in Cusco, followed by a scenic drive through the Sacred Valley. After a short stop in Ollantaytambo, we continue to KM 82, the official trailhead of the Inca Trail.
The first day of this 5 day trek to Machu Picchu is relatively gentle. You will hike alongside the Urubamba River, enjoy lunch on the trail, and visit the archaeological site of Patallacta before arriving at Hatunchaca campsite.

Day 2: Hatunchaca – Wayllabamba – Ayapata – Llulluchapampa – Pacaymayo
After breakfast, the trail gradually becomes more challenging as you ascend through cloud forest and highland scenery. You will pass through Huayllabamba, the final village on the route, before continuing toward the famous Dead Woman’s Pass.
Reaching the summit is one of the most rewarding moments of the trek. From there, you descend to Pacaymayo campsite, where a warm dinner awaits.

Day 3: Pacaymayo – Runkurakay – Sayacmarca – Phuyupatamarca
Day three combines stunning natural views with remarkable archaeological sites. You will hike to the second pass, visit Runkurakay, continue to Sayacmarca, and enjoy the transition from mountain terrain into lush cloud forest.
This section of the inca trail tours 5 days route is rich in scenery, history, and quiet moments on the trail. By afternoon, you will reach Phuyupatamarca, where you can enjoy spectacular sunset views.

Day 4: Phuyupatamarca – Intipata – Wiñay Wayna – Sun Gate – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes
Today is one of the most exciting days of the 5 day Inca Trail hike. You descend through beautiful stone pathways to Intipata and Wiñay Wayna, two extraordinary Inca sites surrounded by dramatic mountain views.
After lunch and a farewell ceremony with the porters and cook, you continue toward the Sun Gate. From here, you will enjoy your first unforgettable view of Machu Picchu. Later, you descend into the sanctuary, visit the upper circuit viewpoints, and then take the bus to Aguas Calientes for dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco
On the final day, you return early to Machu Picchu to explore the site before the largest crowds arrive. Your guide will lead a detailed tour of the main temples, terraces, and ceremonial spaces, helping you understand the significance of this world-famous citadel.
After the guided visit, you return to Aguas Calientes, board the train to Ollantaytambo, and continue by private transportation to Cusco.

- Huayna Picchu Mountain: The mountain that is next to Machu Picchu. This trek has a duration of about 50 minutes and is quite the walk. It has a cost of 75 USD, and for us to be able to get permission for this mountain, you must let us know a month in advance due to its popularity.
- Rentals: Every traveler needs to have their own sleeping bag when camping. Inflatable air mattresses and walking sticks are recommended. These items are not part of the tour package so if you do not wish to bring any of own the above items, you may rent them following these ratest: Inflatable air mattress : $ 15 Walking sticks: $ 10 Sleeping bag: $ 20
- Backpacks for the Day: the agency does not provide backpacks, so you must bring your own. Note; Machu Picchu does not allow backpacks over 25 lb. Flashlights (lamps): it is recommended to bring flashlights for the campsites or headlamps.
- Flights: it is recommended to arrive one day before to Cusco or 2 days before. Flight delays are common in Cusco due to the frequent change of weather, therefore we recommend arrival to be a couple days before. Safe airline: Latam
- Tips: Tips are always welcome, and should be based on your travel satisfaction (not mandatory).
- Travel insurance: Travel insurance is recommended, but not mandatory. Normally many people get sick with altitude sickness, so we recommend adapting 1 day or 2 days before starting a trek

Is this trek easier than the 4-day Inca Trail?
Yes. The route is similar, but the hiking is spread over five days, making it a more comfortable option for many travelers.
Can I store luggage during the trek?
Yes. We offer free luggage storage at our office, and many hotels can also store extra bags.
Do I need my original passport?
Yes. You must bring the same original passport used to reserve your permit.
Can I change my departure date after booking?
No. Once the permit has been issued, the date cannot be changed
Are student discounts available?
Yes, discounts may apply for eligible students and children. Valid documentation is required at the time of booking.
